sigurd and skylarks

Yesterday was a good day, greta weather, great study day and little moments to smile and ponder life and where we find ourselves.

Before the day started I had a chance to wander up to the mounds, it was peaceful with skylarks singing and the sun shining down, the outdoor pigs snuffling about as well, a chance for a few minutes calm thinking.

The lunchtime walk saw me come across an old friend in the woods still looking in good condition, I had to smile given the stories we had beeen looking at.

Sigurd missed this dragon, which is no Fafnir I am sure I am certainly not looking for any treasure.

solstice musings at sutton hoo

Went to Sutton Hoo yesterday for a very inspiring study day on Heroic Norse Poetry, as it happened of course yesterday was the longest day 21 st june. So to celebrate there were a number of Anglo Saxon reenactors on site and a few birds of prey but I cannot see a connection really.

Other than this beutiful juvenile Bald Eagle.

And of course you all know that eagles play a part in a few Norse myths so it was nice and sort of very coincidental.

Over lunch I went for my usual wander and couldnt help wondering what Raedwald the East Anglian  king who was buried in mound 1 would have made of it all.

The row of tents occupied by reenactors with modern day dressed folk milling around asking questions.

And then there is this the centre and the museum behind it with some brilliant replicas and information about the site.

What would he make of it, approve or disapprove. It makes me wonder. It was a lovely day though.

I have heard of guerilla knitters but...

I was on a site in Essex the other day and saw this on a run down and falling down building, I had to laugh.

I mean I have heard of geurilla knitters who cover things in there woven produce but what is this about. Are they after being challenged before you get crochetted or what.

Crochet with attitude now theres a thought.

The plants are taking over

You leave your tractor at the side of a field for a year or two and what happens, the plants start to take it over. Under the Elder there is a Massey Ferguson with a rear mounted grab on it.

I saw this near the fenland village of Reach and its looking like the owner might have to reach for a saw soon.

om my god malcolms selfie

So my new phone has got a camera front and back, Malcolm decided to take a selfie in his preferred habitat, outdoors. In a field of wheat to be precise somewhere in Essex with skylarks calling, you will have to imagine that for yourselves while looking at my sartorial grace and stunning good looks; Hah.

mans best friend

Or is that, it depends how its brought up. Cos we all know Dogs are mans best friend dont we.

Article in Cambridge News on Monday about a man laying on Newmarket Heath who was assuaulted and bitten by a group of three dogs while there owners watched!

Also yesterday I was working at a garden and a delivery van turns up, on hearing a dog calling from the house next door he was due to go to, I says dont worry mate, its a good dog and the owner is there. He smirked and said look at this. Under his left forear were two trenches about an inch long and an eight of an inch deep surrounded by congealed blood.

He says; at me last delivery a dog went for me with no warning or anything.

I know its not the dogs fault, its how they have been taught or learnt to behave by there owners, what have we come to though when people can get away with letting dogs behave like this.

I know of a park where in a dog attack and I do mean attack just outside its gates, the dog left a tooth in the victims leg.

Dogs might be mans best friend, I just dont think man is mans best friend at times and that some people have no respect whatsoever for other people.

there lurketh a beast in the backyard

Having been in the new place a bout six weeks is it??? Herbert the super cat finally looks to be getting settled in, its taken time but hes spending more time outdoors and looking happier while out there. Mind that helped if he has Red legged Partridge to look at or Wood Pigeon or Mallard even, they all visit.
Mind he would never even dream of catching them would he, oh the indignant look on his face, slighted thats what I am he says.

Malcolms got a new phone

Oh yes he has a new mobile phone, smarter than the last one so smarter than me for sure.

Still in that getting used to it phase, got some good apps downloaded well I think so, Bird Track and Mammal Tracker and still getting used to them being so much quicker.

Still getting used to the camera as well;

Yes its the garden of the new place and yes those are red legged partridge looking for leftover corn and having a drink.  Lord only knows what they are doing in this part of the village but they have been here a while by all accounts.

So new phone strage birds in garden, whats next???

its the little things

Its the little things that do it every time.

A phone call from your mum, a trip to old places or just spotting a tiny patch of yellow flowers in your drive. They bring back memories and recollections of past times and old friends and things that happened or things you saw.

The little things.
